Some people adore laces, and some don’t. Maybe it’s a matter of possessing a feminine taste or not. Nevertheless, laces are here to stay. After all, they have managed to survive from one era to another.
Do you get magnetised towards things or clothes with laces? Then you’re most probably a lace fanatic! If so, why not drop by to a lacey event in Sydney this coming December?
To be held at the historic Linnwood Hall of Sydney’s west—exact address is 25 Byron Road, Guildford—the Lace Display will take place on December 12, 2015 for a whole day exhibit of the wide selections of laces, plus free demonstrations on making them.
With intricate patterns made from cotton, silk, linen, gold, silver threads, and synthetic fibres, the classification of laces is according to how they are made. That’s why there are the needle lace, tape lace, cutwork, knotted lace or macramé, bobbin lace, crocheted lace, and more.
But laces’ stunning effects are more from the holes than the fabrics used in them. With forms that create more styles, laces are oftentimes named after their place of origin. So that explains the names Flanders Lace, which is from Belgium, and Northern France, Milanese edging from Italy, Youghal edging from Ireland, and Point de Paris from France.
To be hosted by the Australian Lace Guild, this gorgeous Lace Display is free for everyone, whether a lace fan or simply a curious one wanting to see what’s inside. What’s more, there will be morning and afternoon tea for everyone the whole day.
Aside from the exhibit, a lace making workshop will also be part of the event. For only $55 per day, you can already learn how to make your own lace, which you can use either on your tables or dresses. Visit its website for more information about this.
