Watch a wide variety of Australian films as well as international independent cinema at the 4th annual Indie Gems Film Festival.
This 2013 sees the Indie Gems Film Festival showcase emerging filmmakers from all over the world – with special emphasis placed on films from Western Sydney.
The entire three days of the festival allows attendees to see exciting and diverse screenings, network with their peers in the industry and attend informative workshops. Filmmakers will also have the opportunity to learn from premier industry professionals who are knowledgeable in new film distribution methods and marketing.
Come Opening Night, prepare to watch the Sydney premiere of the film `Pharaoh Vs The Egyptians,’ a documentary by Australian comedian Akmal Saleh. Egypt-born Akmal shows how people were able to overthrow the 30-year rule of a dictator.
On Saturday, expect to watch Gossip Nation – the first ever Nigerian film made in Australia. As part of Nollywood (Nigerian Cinema), Gossip Nation presents the dramas experienced by a community of African immigrants and refugees in Blacktown, Sydney. Through the character of Kemi, a teen Nigerian girl who starts a gossip through the community, the film shows how words can create chaos and turn friends and family against each other.
Festival director John L Simpson saw the low ratio of good Australian films to foreign movies in Australian cinemas and decided to create Indie Gems Film Festival as a testament to the diversity and talent present in the country.
The Indie Gems Film Festival will take place at Riverside Theatres, Cnr Church and Market St, Sydney from September 12 to 14, 2013. The event is a short drive from our 1 Bedroom Self Contained Apartment Sydney.
